Frequently Asked Questions
-
How much does it cost? The total system cost depends on a variety of factors including number of panels, location, and more. For a more accurate quote, please call (785) 261-3000.
-
Will it actually save me money?Short answer, yes! With the current tax credits, customers can pay off their systems quickly and then reap the benefits. For example, if a customer pays $16,000 for their system that saves them $2,000 on their energy bill per year, the system will be paid off in 8 years. After that 8th year, 17 years of $2,000 savings creates a $34,000 return on the intial investment!
-
Do you offer financing?Yes, we work with a financing company to get you a great rate to finance your system. Often times, the monthly payments for the loan are still lower than your current electric bill, saving you money while you pay it off.
-
How does the federal tax credit work?If you install a solar system now through the year 2032, you are entitled to a nonrefundable credit off your federal income tax, equal to 30 percent of the total system cost. You must take the credit for the year in which the installation was completed.
-
How long does installation take? The system installation only takes 1 to 2 days. However, for integrated systems, we will need to work with the power company to tap into the grid and that set-up process can take up to 60 days.
-
What happens if a panel gets damaged? Our equipment come with industry-leading warranties, so if there is a mechanical failure, we’ll fix it! For all other damages such as storm damage, your home owners insurance should cover that (just like your roof).
-
Do I need a battery to store extra power?Batteries are optional, but highly recommended for some systems. If your system is integrated into the grid, you can still pull power from there if you are under-producing and can give excess power back (which should earn you credit from the power company). If your system is stand-alone, rural, or you experience frequent outages, a battery would be a good way to store power to use when you need it.
-
What happens if the panels don’t produce enough power? If you have a battery, you can store extra power when you are over-producing to use when you are under-producing. If your system is integrated into the grid, you can still pull power from there. We also offer lLP and natural gas generators for those who do not have a battery and are not on the grid.
-
What maintenance will I have to do on the panels?Very little. It is a good idea have them inspected once a year, but not always necessary as they are designed to be in the outdoor elements.
-
Will my home value be affected?Yes, your home value will increase. In fact, according to Zillow, a home with solar panels’ value is increased by 4.1% on average compared to similar homes with no solar panels.
-
Are the panels affected by weather?Bad weather has little affect on solar panels. In fact, your panels still generate power even on cloudy days. A heavy snow can affect the panels, but due to the slick glass material and angle of the panels, it doesn’t stick for long. Power consumption is also much lower in the winter making that issue insignificant.
